Vol. 148 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballycotton Pier.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that the firm of consultants engaged in 1950 to advise on the extension of Ballycotton pier has not yet, despite repeated representations, submitted a report, and, if so, what action he proposes to take in the matter.

I am aware that Cork County Council have engaged a firm of consulting engineers to advise on proposals for improvement of Ballycotton pier. The matter is one between the county council and its consultants and I do not consider that I can appropriately intervene in the matter.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that those proposals were first carried out on the instructions of his Department, namely, the proposals for the extension of the pier?

The Deputy, no doubt, is an influential member of the Cork County Council and I would suggest that he would raise this matter with the county council and let the county council take the matter up with the consulting engineer.

I raised the matter with the Parliamentary Secretary, who is also a very influential gentleman, in Ballycotton on the occasion of his visit there and I know the viewpoint he expressed there. My reason for putting down this question is to see if he is now going to carry out his promise.

The matter is one completely for the Cork County Council, of which the Deputy is a member.

So the Parliamentary Secretary does not mind.
