Vol. 148 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Corrib Drainage Scheme Appointments.

asked the Minister for Finance whether it is the policy of his Department to allocate marks or give preference to candidates with certified national service in the Old I.R.A. or the Defence Forces when filling posts such as that of pay clerk on the Corrib drainage scheme.

Employment as pay clerk on a drainage scheme is part-time only and is remunerated on a commission basis. It is not the practice, when considering persons who apply or are recommended for such employment, to allocate marks for service in the I.R.A. or the Defence Forces. Candidates are assessed primarily on their experience and general suitability for the duties involved.

I would like to know what consideration was given for the Old I.R.A. When the several rate collectorships were being given.

That is a separate question.
