Vol. 148 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - C.I.E. Maintenance Service.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he received representations urging him to request C.I.E. not to transfer the maintenance service for steam locomotives from Inchicore, Dublin, to Limerick, and, if so, what is the present position in the matter.

The allocation of work between their workshops is a matter for the board of C.I.E.

Representations were recently made to me and to C.I.E. by the trade unions catering for workers at the C.I.E. workshops, Inchicore, stressing the hardship which would be caused by the proposed transfer to Limerick of a number of workers engaged on the maintenance of steam locomotives at Inchicore. I understand that C.I.E. now hope to avoid transferring these workers to Limerick in which case the work on which they were engaged would continue to be carried out at the Inchicore works.
