Vol. 148 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Limerick Blind Welfare Schemes.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will give details of the blind welfare schemes administered by the Limerick Corporation and the Limerick County Council.

The blind welfare schemes administered by the Limerick Corporation and the Limerick County Council are somewhat lengthy documents and I am sending a copy of each scheme to the Deputy.

The following sets out the position at the 31st December, 1954, as to the number of blind persons assisted by these local authorities:—

One hundred and thirteen persons were registered under the Limerick Corporation scheme. Of these, three were resident in approved institutions and grants totalling £139 8s. 4d. were paid by the corporation in respect of them during 1954. Twenty-four were being assisted in their own homes at a cost to the corporation of £502 8s. 6d.

Eighty-five persons were registered under the Limerick County Council scheme. Of these, nine were resident in approved institutions and grants totalling £495 were paid by the council during 1954. Seventy-six were being assisted in their own homes at a cost to the council of £2,004 5s. 9d.
