Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Exchequer Payments to Government Members.

asked the Minister for Finance whether any members of the Government, Parliamentary Secretaries, or the Attorney-General, are enjoying salaries, pensions or remunerations from any other posts, activities or offices, payment for which is chargeable to, or defrayed from the Exchequer, or other funds to which the Exchequer contributes; and, if so, if he will give particulars of such posts, activities or appointments, and the amounts of salary, pension or remuneration derived therefrom in each case.

The reply to the first part of the question is "Yes". The further information sought by the Deputy, so far as it is available, is in the form of a tabular statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I shall have circulated with the Official Report.

The statement is as follows:—

MINISTER FOR EDUCATION:

Receives a Pension under the Military Service Pensions Acts of £395 17s. 6d. a year.

MINISTER FOR DEFENCE:

Receives a Pension of £240 a year under the Military Service Pensions Acts and a Disability Pension of £260 a year and a Married Pension of 18s. 9d. a week under the Army Pensions Acts.

ATTORNEY-GENERAL:

Holds a Professorship in the Faculty of Law* in University College, Dublin.

PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY TO THE GOVERNMENT:

Holds a Lectureship in Economics* in University College, Dublin.

*As regards the posts starred the further particulars required by the Deputy do not come within the purview of the Minister for Finance. These matters are determined by Statutes made from time to time by the Governing Body of University College, Dublin, and laid before both Houses of the Oireachtas in accordance with the provisions of the Irish Universities Act, 1908.
