Vol. 148 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Temporary Health Inspectors.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state the number of temporary health inspectors employed by local authorities at a recent convenient date, and if he will consider suspending further courses for health inspectors pending the permanent appointment of these persons.

Twenty-four health inspectors are employed in a temporary capacity by local authorities.

The present course of training, which is being conducted by the vocational education committee for the City of Dublin, will not be concluded until next summer and the results, from the aspect of standard of training achieved and numbers of students qualifying, cannot, of course, yet be assessed. No decision has been taken in regard to the holding of future courses, but, when this matter is being examined, all relevant factors will be taken into consideration.

Permanent vacancies are invariably filled through the Local Appointments Commission and it will be understood that there can, of course, be no question of denying qualified persons, who have not so far secured permanent appointments, an opportunity of competing for future vacancies.
