Vol. 148 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - New School for Limerick.

asked the Minister for Education if he will have urgent action taken in regard to the erection of the new school at Prospect, Limerick City, which is intended to replace the existing Leamys National School, and when construction is likely to commence.

Sketch plans for the proposed new school at Ballinacurra Weston, near the new housing area at Prospect, to replace the present Leamys National School, Limerick City, have been prepared by the reverend manager's architect and are being considered by the Commissioners of Public Works. I understand that the commissioners hope to be in a position to furnish my Department, at an early date, with a report as to the suitability of the plans.

Subject to the plans being regarded as suitable, certain other preliminary arrangements will require to be made before a grant can be sanctioned by my Department towards the cost of the new school. These arrangements will necessarily take a considerable time to complete, but every effort will be made to have them dealt with as expeditiously as possible.

I am unable to say, at present, when work on the construction of the new school is likely to be commenced.
