Vol. 148 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Replacement Holdings for Dursey Islanders.

asked the Minister for Lands what progress has been made with the scheme for providing replacement holdings on the mainland for applicants from Dursey Island.

The Land Commission migrated three families from Dursey Island for the purpose of relieving congestion there. Following representations that more families should be migrated, a detailed survey was made of the position. The survey discloses that any further migrations from the island would almost certainly lead to its complete evacuation. My information is that the main difficulty of the islanders is not so much lack of land as lack of communication and possibly educational facilities and I am asking that these matters be brought to the notice of the Departments concerned.
