Vol. 148 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Compensation for Loss of Employment.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that about 15 workers on the Pole-Carew estate at Shanbally, Clogheen, County Tipperary, are losing their employment because of the acquisition of the estate by the Land Commission, and, if so, what steps he proposes to take to compensate them by finding them alternative employment or granting them holdings on the estate.

As is their settled practice the Land Commission will in due course give careful consideration to the position of every person displaced from employment on land by reason of the acquisition of this estate and may provide parcels of land or cash gratuities in suitable cases.

In addition, some or all of these employees will be offered temporary employment on estate improvement works.
