Vol. 148 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Increase in Maize Price.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether his Department approved the forthcoming increase in the price of maize.

The recent increase in the price of maize sold by Grain Importers (Éire), Limited, was approved by me. The increase was necessitated by the increase in the world price of maize, which, but for forward purchases made in last July, would require a price of about £31 per ton to be charged for maize instead of £29, which is the current price.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, will he indicate what earth-shaking circumstances brought about the change of heart in this connection?

That is a separate question.
