Vol. 148 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pig Statistics.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state (a) the number of pigs in each rural district in County Kerry on 1st June, 1954, and on 1st November, 1954, and (b) the number of pigs and porkers slaughtered in each bacon factory in Tralee during the period 1st June, 1954, to 1st November, 1954.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement showing the total number of pigs in each rural district in County Kerry on 1st June, 1954. These statistics are collected and compiled only in respect of 1st June each year and the corresponding numbers on 1st November, 1954, cannot therefore be stated.

In view of the fact that particulars of the numbers of pigs killed in individual bacon factories are collected on a confidential basis, it is not possible to supply the information asked for in (b) of the Deputy's question.

Following is the statement:—
