Vol. 148 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Oats Imports.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state (i) the quantity of oats imported during recent months and (ii) the price paid per ton delivered.

Between 1st October, 1954 and 31st January, 1955 imports of oats for seed totalled 476 tons and in the same period imports of oats other than for seed totalled 818 tons. The average c.i.f. price paid per ton was £35 10s. for seed oats and £30 8s. for oats other than for seed.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that during the time when that oats was brought in, oats other than seed oats at £30 8s. per ton, the general price ruling in the country for Irish-grown oats, was much below that figure and that part of the reason for that was these imports?

I am not so aware.

It is true—even if the Parliamentary Secretary is not so aware.
