Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Counsel to Post Office.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if the Minister for Health has surrendered his appointment as standing counsel to the Post Office and, if so (a) from what date, (b) who has been appointed to the position, and on what terms.

(a) On becoming a member of the Government the Minister for Health relinquished his appointment as standing counsel to the Post Office.

(b) The appointment of another standing counsel is under consideration; meanwhile different members of the Bar have been nominated to act in particular cases as required and have been paid the appropriate professional fees. Standing counsel is not paid a salary or a retainer but is paid fees in each case on which he advises or in which he represents the Post Office in court in accordance with the scales laid down by the Bar Council.
