Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Roads.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will indicate what sums of money have been allocated in respect of the Berehaven and Kilcaskin areas under the headings (a) main roads, (b) county roads, and (c) Local Authorities (Works) Act for the coming year.

asked the Minister for Local Government what road grants have been allocated to the Cork County Council for the coming year in respect of (a) main roads, and (b) county roads, and, further, what amount has been allocated under the Local Authorities (Works) Act for the Cork County Council.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 58 and 59 together.

The grants to be made available to local authorities for works under the Local Authorities (Works) Act for the coming financial year have not yet been determined, but it is expected that they will be notified in the near future. Cork County Council are being notified that the Road Fund grants available to them for 1955-56 are as follows:— (a) Main Road Upkeep Grant—40 per cent. of approved expenditure; (b) Main Road Improvement Grant— £130,600; (c) County Road Improvement Grant—£330,800.

In all cases it will be for the county council to propose the works to be carried out under these grants.
