Vol. 149 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition and Division of Land.

asked the Minister for Lands why the Land Commission decided not to acquire the Kelly-Burke farm and the Hynes farm at Boston, County Clare.

The question of acquiring these two estates was examined by the commissioners to whom is entrusted the duty of deciding on acquisition of lands and after careful consideration of all the facts they decided not to acquire these lands.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission have considered the propriety of acquiring the lands of Mr. Caslin (formerly Hancock estate), Hillstreet, County Roscommon, and, if so, with what result.

Proceedings have been instituted for the acquisition of this estate but, pending a decision on an objection lodged on behalf of the owner, it is not possible to state what the outcome will be.

Could I urge on the Minister the importance of a decision being taken as soon as possible in view of the fact that there is a large number of small holders in this area many of whom at the present time have their holdings almost completely under water as a result of flooding?

All right. I will ask the commissioners not to have any delay.
