Vol. 149 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Aureomycin Imports.

asked the Taoiseach what percentage of our aureomycin requirements is imported from (a) the United States of America, and (b) Great Britain.

Since imports are brought to account according to the headings of the official import list, which does not include the heading in question, and since the particulars furnished on the customs documents are not sufficient to enable the data to be extracted by a special compilation, I regret that it is not possible to furnish the information asked for by the Deputy.

In view of the fact that I have information that the bulk of our imports of aureomycin comes from America and, having regard to the fact that aureomycin is now produced and manufactured in Great Britain much cheaper, would the Parliamentary Secretary consider investigating the position to see whether the channels by which it is imported could be changed and the benefit of the reduction in cost passed on to the sufferers?

That is a separate question.
