Vol. 149 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork School Accommodation.

asked the Minister for Education what steps have been taken by his Department to supply proper school accommodation in Conna, County Cork, in view of the fact that the Muintir na Tíre hall, which is over a mile away from the school, has been used as a classroom for some of the pupils, and that the Conna parish guild have notified the manager that the hall will not be available after the present term.

A grant has been sanctioned by my Department towards the cost of a scheme for enlarging and improving Conna National School, County Cork.

The Commissioners of Public Works have been asked to do everything possible to complete speedily the arrangements which must be made before work on the scheme can commence, but because of the very heavy volume of work which they have at present on hands in connection with the provision of new schools and the enlargement and improvement of existing schools it will be some time yet before the stage is reached where the building contract can be placed.

I am having the question of the temporary arrangements for carrying on the work of the school pending completion of the proposed scheme of enlargement and improvement examined in the light of the fact that the Conna Parish Guild of Muintir na Tíre has given notice to the reverend manager that the guild's hall at Conna will not be available for use as a classroom after the coming summer school term.
