Vol. 149 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Division of Turbary.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission propose to prepare, in the near future, a scheme for the allocation of 165 acres of undeveloped turbary in the townland of Fairfield between Ahascragh and Ballinasloe, which they have on hands for many years.

I am informed that the demand for turbary on this particular bog is very slight; the bog is no more than the poor remnant of a large estate divided almost 20 years ago.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission propose to acquire all or portion of the bog, which comprises 1,340 acres approximately, in the townlands of Killure More and others, barony of Clonmacnowen, near Ballinasloe, County Galway, for allocation to the many landholders and others, who require turbary for domestic purposes.

The Land Commission are carrying on certain negotiations which may result in the purchase of a considerable area of turbary to meet the needs of this district.
