Vol. 149 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bran and Pollard Prices.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the estimated saving to the Exchequer in the coming year, which will result from the recent increase in the price of bran and pollard.

The saving to the Exchequer resulting from an increase in the price of wheaten offals will depend on the length of time during which the higher price is maintained. As the home production of wheaten offals is about 7,500 tons a month, a rise or fall of £1 a ton in offal prices involves a decrease or an increase of about £7,500 a month in the cost to the Exchequer of maintaining flour and bread prices at existing levels.
