Vol. 149 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Government (Superannuation) Act, 1948.

andJ. Lynch asked the Minister for Local Government if he is yet in a position to state when he will introduce proposals for legislation to amend the Local Government (Superannuation) Act, 1948.

Since assuming office I became aware of the necessity for an amendment to the Local Government (Superannuation) Act, 1948, and I instructed my Department to prepare headings of such a Bill, but the Deputies will appreciate that a considerable amount of research has to be done to enable such a Bill to be prepared. I will introduce amending legislation before the summer recess.

Contrary to what has been stated outside this House there were no draft or other headings for such an amending Bill in my Department on my taking up office.
