Vol. 150 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Greyhound Racing Control Board.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state (a) the Government's intention in regard to the establishment of a control board for greyhound racing, (b) whether any undertaking has been given to the representatives of the Irish Coursing Club regarding a majority control on the proposed board and, if so, the nature of the undertaking, and (c) whether it is intended that full control and supervision over greyhound racing will rest in the hands of his nominees on the board.

(a) The draft of a Bill to implement various recommendations of the advisory committee on the greyhound industry, including the establishment of a control board for the industry, is at present under consideration.

(b) I have informed the Irish Coursing Club that my intention is that a majority of the members of the board will be drawn from the membership of the club, after consultation with the club.

(c) The Deputy, I am afraid, will have to await the introduction of the Bill for particulars of the constitution and functions of the proposed control board.
