John McGuinness

Question:

325 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 405 of 16 February 1999, his Department has completed its review of a case of a person (details supplied) in County Carlow; and if financial assistance will be arranged towards the cost of transport. [11504/99]

John McGuinness

Question:

326 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science the financial assistance or otherwise his Department will give to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny who must travel 24 miles each day to the nearest school; and if the full circumstances of the case will be re-viewed in view of the hardships being experienced by the family. [11505/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 325 and 326 together.

I am pleased to confirm that my Department, having examined the particular circumstances of these two cases, has sanctioned remote area grants towards the cost of private transport arrangements to the school now being attended. The grant payable to each family may be claimed at the end of each school year. Official claim forms for this purpose have been forwarded directly to the families concerned.
