Vol. 150 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Botanic Gardens, Dublin.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether there are regulations prohibiting the admission of perambulators and go-cars to the Botanic Gardens, Dublin, and, if so, if he will consider revoking such regulations.

There is no regulation prohibiting the admission of perambulators and go-cars to the Botanic Gardens, Dublin. In order, however, to avoid congestion in narrow pathways and passages, such as in the greenhouses, it is necessary to prevent the bringing of perambulators and go-cars into such parts of the gardens.

Arising out of the Minister's facetious reply, does he not realise that it is a great hardship on a woman to have to carry a ten months old baby around the Botanic Gardens? In that particular area there is no public park. It means that women have to forego fresh air for themselves and their children because they will not admit a go-car or a perambulator.

The Deputy clearly has not listened to my answer. In 1949 I fought a valiant battle to open the Botanic Gardens to go-cars and perambulators and it was I let the go-cars and perambulators into the Botanic Gardens, in 1949.

They are still kept out.

They are not.

If any persons are kept out, let them send down for me and I will bring them in.

I saw them outside last week.

Next time send for me.
