Vol. 150 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Temporary Engineers: Employment Conditions.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, in view of the hardships that may be caused to many temporary engineers employed by local authorities under the existing regulations, which provide that they may not hold their positions for more than three years, he will extend the regulations to cover one further year; further, if he will discuss the matter with representatives of the Institute of Civil Engineers and Cumann na n-Innealtóirí with a view to easing any hardships that may arise.

Discussions have taken place between officers of my Department and Cumann na n-Innealtóirí and I have the general question under consideration at present with a view to determining whether any amendment of the present rule is desirable. Any proposals designed to alleviate specific cases of particular hardship where such are considered to arise will receive special consideration from me.
