Vol. 150 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Migrant's Former Holding.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that a farmer whose name has been supplied to the Minister, who migrated in the spring of 1954, has let his former holding, which he should have surrendered, and, if so, why the usual procedure in regard to migrants has not been followed in this case.

Owing to certain legal difficulties, the migrant referred to by the Deputy has been unable, as yet, to carry out his exchange.

He has been given certain temporary facilities on the proposed new holding but for the present he remains legally in occupation of his old holding.

Arising out of the reply, would the Minister give the name of the person concerned—the farmer referred to in the question by Deputy O'Hara?

No, I will not.

It is unfair to have some kind of a mystery going on—to put a question down with no name.

If there is a mystery going on, the mystery occurred during the time the Deputy's Minister for Lands was in office and not while I was in office. Perhaps Deputy Derrig might enlighten the Deputy because, of course, a mystery is a thing which ordinary human beings cannot understand.

Is it not a fact that the Minister for Lands has not got any responsibility for the allocation of holdings to allottees?

That is a rather severe cut at the intelligence of Deputy Calleary.

It is a separate question.
