Vol. 150 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Afforestation.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the lands of Askine, Warden estate, Sneem, were offered recently for afforestation purposes, and, if so, if he will ensure that acquisition proceedings are carried out expeditiously.

My Department has recently received an offer of land for afforestation purposes in the area mentioned and arrangements have been made to have it inspected. I can assure the Deputy that if it proves suitable there will be no avoidable delay in proceeding with negotiations for its acquisition.

asked the Minister for Lands whether an offer of lands for afforestation purposes has been received from the Lismore Estate Company, County Waterford, and, if so, whether the offer has been accepted, and when it is proposed to start planting operations.

A considerable area owned by the Lismore Estate Company in the Knockmealdown Mountains has been offered for forestry purposes and the offer is at present under consideration.
