Vol. 150 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Boyne Fisheries.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he has received complaints regarding damage caused to fish in the river Boyne by effluence from works being carried out by Bord na Móna above the upper reaches of the river, and if he will take all possible steps to ensure that no further damage is caused to the fisheries.

Complaints of the kind referred to have been received by my Department. The position of Bord na Móna in regard to the Fisheries Acts is set out in Section 27 of the Turf Development Act, 1946. Discussions with officials of Bord na Móna are taking place on the general question of danger to fisheries through operations of the board. The particular case of the Boyne has been discussed and certain precautionary measures have been introduced by the board.
