Vol. 150 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Forestry Land.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the total amount of land acquired for forestry purposes in the year ended 31st March, 1955, and the amount of such land which is (a) suitable for planting, and (b) unsuitable for planting.

The total area of land acquired for forestry purposes in 1954-55 was 17,468 acres. Of this total, approximately 15,599 acres have been classified as plantable and approximately 1,869 acres as unplantable.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the amount of plantable land for forestry purposes at present held by his Department.

Scaling and classification of the areas planted during 1954-55 has not yet been completed and the figure for plantable reserve at 31st March, 1955, cannot as yet be accurately computed. On the best estimate which can be made, however, the figure is 47,250 acres approximately.
