Vol. 150 No. 12

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Salary of Land Commission Inspector.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he has received representations regarding the salary and pension of a retired Land Commission inspector, and, if so, what action he has taken or proposes to take on the matter.

The most recent representations in this matter were received in July of last year. A reply issued on the 19th July that the circumstances of the case had already been fully considered.

Is the Minister aware that the advice tendered by very prominent legal men, some of whom are members of the present Government, is that this man has been very unjustly treated? Would the Minister not have the matter reexamined in view of the services of this official to the country?

I did not know anything about this case until the Deputy's question brought it to my notice. I went through seven rather bulky files of an inspector in connection with this matter. I must stand over the decision taken by previous Governments in this matter. I cannot agree that an injustice has been done. The principal thing here is that there is a break in the service and if we take a break into consideration in one case we would have to take it into consideration in the others.
