Vol. 150 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Agricultural Institute.

asked the Minister for Agriculture what is the present position in regard to the proposal to set up an agricultural institute.

I would refer the Deputy to the statement which I made on the proposed agricultural institute in Seanad Éireann on the 20th April, 1955. In it I indicated that:—

"For several months, the Department of Agriculture has been engaged on the preparation of draft heads of legislation for the setting up of the proposed agricultural institute. This draft is intended to provide a basis for discussion of the institute proposal with the various interests concerned. The draft is to be submitted shortly to the Government for a direction as to the form which such discussion should take."

I can assure the Deputy that the preparation of the material for the Government is proceeding as speedily as possible having regard to the importance and complexity of the issues involved.
