asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state, in relation to the 33,000 tons of tanker tonnage which Irish Shipping, Limited, contemplates acquiring, whether it is proposed to have any of that tonnage built in Irish shipyards, and, if so, to what approximate extent.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Building of Tankers.
The tankers which are to be acquired by Irish Shipping, Limited, will be deep-sea vessels. The Liffey Dockyard, Limited, are not in a position to build vessels of the size required, and the Cork Dockyard, Limited, have no shipbuilding facilities. Consideration will be given to the possibility of having the tonnage or part of it built in the Belfast shipyard.
