Vol. 151 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Stout, Ale and Beer.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state what is the present specific gravity of stout and ale manufactured in this country.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce when the gravity of stout and beer manufactured in this country was reduced and by how much and for what reason; further, what benefit by way of reduced prices accrued to the distributors and/or the consumers.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle I propose to take Questions Nos. 4 and 5 together.

As regards the specific gravities of stout, ale and beer, I cannot disclose information supplied to me in confidence about the quality of any trader's products.

The Deputy will appreciate that the prices of these commodities are dependent on total manufacturing and distribution costs in the brewing industry as a whole and that specific gravity is but one of the factors affecting the position.
