Vol. 151 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Acquisition and Division.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission have considered the propriety of acquiring Lusk Government Farm (Record No. S. 257—A. and R. 187742) from the Office of Public Works for sub-division among deserving local applicants, and, if so, with what result; further, what is the acreage of the farm in question.

Until the passing, in December last, of the State Property Act, 1954, the Land Commission were not in a position to acquire these lands. They have since instituted inquiries with a view to possible acquisition but these inquiries are not yet completed.

The area involved is 169 acres.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that a farm of 100 acres, formerly the property of the late Bridget Kiely, and now in the possession of Mr. Parks, Strancally Castle, Knockanore, County Waterford, has been offered for sale; and, if so, whether, in view of the fact that the land may be purchased by a non-national, and that a large number of local men are desirous of getting land in the area sufficient to make their present holdings economic, the Land Commission will consider the propriety of acquiring it.

The Land Commission instituted proceedings for the acquisition of these lands in 1954 but the owner's objection thereto was subsequently allowed. In view of the position as disclosed by the Deputy I will ask the Land Commission to review the matter.
