Vol. 151 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bent-Grass Development.

asked the Minister for Lands what progress has been made in the development of bent-grass on the Carter estate, Doolough (Record No. S. 1879), and if the Land Commission intend, in the near future, to allot the lands not required for this development.

The scheme undertaken by the Land Commission for the prevention of blowing sand on the Carter estate at Doolough has made considerable progress. The movement of sand has been halted and the lands hitherto affected are now pretty safe from encroachment. The sand, however, has not been sufficiently stabilised to warrant the risk of final allotment of the lands and the Land Commission are satisfied that the interests of the future allottees will best be served if allotment is postponed until sand-blowing in the area is brought entirely under control.
