Vol. 151 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Housing Estate Rents.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that excessive rents are being charged for houses at Wadelai estate, Ballymun, Dublin, and, if so, whether, for the benefit of the tenants concerned, he will introduce legislation to remedy this position.

The Government are at present examining the major proposals in the Conroy report on rent control, including a recommendation that the rents of houses built since 1941 should be controlled at the levels prevailing before the report was published (17th January, 1953). Until the Government have completed their examination of these proposals, it would be undesirable for me to make any statement about the level of rents now being charged for particular houses or about the nature of the action which the Government may decide to take with regard to the proposals in the report.
