Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Industrial Manufacturing Concerns.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the number of persons employed in industrial manufacturing concerns in the State, which are protected by tariffs.

The number of persons engaged in industrial manufacturing concerns, some or all of whose products are protected by tariffs, was 118,700 in September, 1954. The figure quoted is an estimate based on the quarterly returns of persons engaged in industrial concerns which furnish returns at the Census of Industrial Production.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state (a) the number of industrial manufacturing concerns in the State employing 20 persons and upwards, and (b) the number of such concerns which are protected by tariffs.

The number of industrial manufacturing concerns employing 20 persons and upwards was 1,400 in September, 1954, and the total number of such concerns, some or all of whose products are protected by tariffs, was 1,154.
