Vol. 151 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Turbary.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission will provide turbary plots for the people of Derryloughan, Newport, who formerly got their turbary from bog which has now been acquired by the Forestry Division of his Department.

The Forestry Division are in negotiation for the acquisition of an area in the townland of Lappallagh to which, I presume, the Deputy refers. Pending final acquisition the Department has, of course, no control over the making of bog lettings on the area but gave the vendor and his solicitors full permission to go ahead and make turbary lettings for the current season on the same lines as in previous years. I myself have been at pains to make the position clear both to the vendor and to the bog tenants.
