Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Housing.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he has received an application from the Cork County Council for sanction to raise a loan for the payment of supplementary housing grants, and, if so, what is the present position in the matter.

On 15th instant two applications were received in my Department from the Cork County Council requesting approval to the raising of loans of £110,000 and £15,000 for the purpose of making supplementary grants under Sections 9 to 11 of the Housing (Amendment) Act, 1952, and Section 12 of the Housing (Amendment) Act, 1954, respectively. I have recommended the Minister for Finance to sanction the issue of the former loan from the Local Loans Fund. In the latter case the council propose borrowing the sum of £15,000 from their treasurer and I have accorded sanction to the proposal.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he has recently received inquiries from the Kinsale Urban Council in relation to financial accommodation to meet their liabilities under the Housing Acts, and, if so, what is the present position in the matter.

A proposal was received from the council on the 15th instant for the borrowing by way of temporary overdraft of a sum of £10,000 in connection with the financing of a scheme of eight houses at Barrack Street, Kinsale, pending the raising of a loan for the scheme. The proposal was sanctioned on the 17th instant.
