Vol. 151 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - State Companies: Women Directors.

asked the Taoiseach whether it is the policy of the Government to exclude women from appointment to the boards of the various State companies, and, if not, why women directors are consistently conspicuous by their absence from such boards.

The answer to the first part of the Deputy's question is in the negative. The persons appointed by the Government or by the Ministers concerned to the boards of the various State-sponsored companies are selected in consideration of their personal qualities, experience and suitability in each particular case.

Do I take it that the Taoiseach has yet to find a woman whose ability and qualifications are good enough for appointment to these boards?

That is the Deputy's gloss on the reply.
