Vol. 152 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Galway Water Supply.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he received a proposal to extend the water supply through the Loop Road to the Low Road at Knocknacarra, Galway, and, if not, whether such a proposal was recommended by the county council, and a scheme prepared and submitted for the county manager's approval, and when the submission was made; and whether there is any special difficulty in providing a water supply for the growing number of residents in the locality.

No such proposal has been received. I understand that no definite scheme has been prepared locally and that the suggested extension has not been formally adopted by the county council. I am also informed that the proposal would have involved a further extension of the Galway Borough water supply, which, pending the installation of new filtration and pumping plants, is considered inadequate for existing needs.
