Vol. 152 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin City: Issue of E.B.1 Forms.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware of the annoyance and misunderstanding caused to a considerable number of people in Dublin City because of the issue of his Department's form E.B.1 by the Deputy Registration Officer in connection with the compilation of the list of electors for the year 1955-56; and, if so, if he will arrange to have this form amended when the list of electors for 1956-57 is being compiled.

I am aware that some confusion has been caused by the wording used in the form referred to by the Deputy and an alteration has been made in the forms now being printed for issue in connection with the next register of electors.

May I take it that the Minister is reverting to the use of form E.A.1., as apart from E.B.1? Further, I should like to ask the Minister is he aware that 6,000 or 7,000 people might have been deprived of the right to have their names appear on the register of electors this year if it were not for the discretion exercised by the county registrar here, who admitted them to the register whether they had filled in the necessary claim form or not?

I am not responsible for the actions of my predecessor but I am reverting now to the original practice and the Deputy's point is being met by the amended form which will be issued.
