Vol. 152 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - An Tóstal: Tourist Statistics.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state (a) the estimated number of tourists who visited Ireland from overseas during the Tóstal period, and (b) the number of tourists who visited Ireland from overseas during the corresponding weeks in 1953 and 1954.

The number of direct incoming overseas passengers who arrived in this country by sea or air, other than through Britain, the Six Counties or the Continent of Europe, in the month of May, 1955, was 2,597. Corresponding figures for the month of May in 1953 and 1954 were 2,639 and 2,633. As indicated in my reply to the Deputy's question of 7th June, 1955, statistics of tourists as distinct from other classes of passengers are not available.
