Vol. 152 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Valentia Island: Bridge Inquiry.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is now in a position to fix a definite date for the inquiry into the proposal to erect a bridge connecting Valentia Island with the mainland; what is the cause of the delay; and if he will give an outline of the procedure to be adopted at the inquiry.

A date for the commencement of the inquiry in this case cannot be fixed until I receive an intimation that the local authority have completed the preparation of all material on which evidence by their representatives may be offered or required. That intimation has not yet been received from the local authority.

The inquiry will be held on the mainland but in order to facilitate the islanders it is being arranged that sittings will also be held on the island. The inquiry will be a public inquiry and it will be open to any person interested to attend and to give evidence. Due notice of this fact will be given in the public Press when the date for the inquiry has been fixed.
