Vol. 152 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Village Water Supply.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that, two years ago, during operations on the Feale drainage scheme, the well at Killacrim, Listowel, was removed and a pump erected in its place; that since its erection it has failed to work, with the result that the 50 families who obtained their water supply from the well have to travel over three miles to obtain a supply; and, if so, if he will ensure that normal water facilities are provided immediately for these people; further, if he will state the cost of erecting the inoperative pump.

As I explained to the Deputy when he called to my office last week, a well at Killacrim was necessarily removed in the course of operations under the Feale catchment drainage scheme. A temporary alternative water supply, which later dried out, was provided for the owner of the land at a cost of approximately £15. The provision of a public water supply is not a matter for the Commissioners of Public Works.
