Vol. 153 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Control of Profits.

Mr. Lemass

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state, with reference to his recent announcement concerning the exemption from control of profits made in export business, what change this involves in the previous practice of his Department.

It has been the practice in my Department when considering the reasonableness or otherwise of profits earned by manufacturers to exclude profits earned on export business from the computation of profits.

It appeared from a recent examination of an important export project that the availability of this concession was not universally known and I considered it necessary to make the announcement referred to in the Deputy's question with a view to stimulating interest in exports generally.
