Dáil Éireann debate -

Vol. 153 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hire Purchase Act.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether proposals for the amendment of the Hire Purchase Act, 1946, are under examination in his Department, and, if so, the nature of such proposals.

I would refer the Deputy to the reply given to a question which he asked in Dáil Éireann on the 16th February last concerning hire purchase legislation. There are no proposals for the amendment of the legislation at present under examination in my Department. I have, however, been reviewing the operation of certain of the provisions of the Act in order to satisfy myself that those provisions are not being abused or circumvented. I have already been promised the co-operation of some of the leading firms in the business in ensuring that price display tickets will be in conformity with the spirit as well as with the letter of the legislation.
