Vol. 153 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Donegal Transport.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he proposes to seek the views of the Donegal County Council and other interested bodies in the county before he sanctions any change in the Donegal transport system.

As I indicated in reply to a question on the subject of public transport in County Donegal on the 10th November, 1954, no final decisions will be taken until local interests have been afforded an opportunity of expressing their views.

May I ask the Minister when he intends to consult these local interests in Donegal, or if he has already done so? I maintain it is a matter of urgency, since many people claim that, due to the publicity given to this matter, some decisions have been taken already.

The Deputy can be assured that no decisions have been taken and no decisions will be taken until local people have been consulted; and I will consult them at the earliest opportunity.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will make a statement in regard to the proposed reorganisation of public transport in County Donegal, and if he is now in a position to make known in detail all the decisions arrived at in the matter.

The report which I am awaiting in the matter from my nominees on the Great Northern Railway Board has not yet been furnished. I am not, therefore, in a position to make a statement in the matter at present.
