Vol. 153 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - C.I.E. Wage Increases.

Mr. Lemass

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state (1) the annual cost to C.I.E. of the present wage increases to employees in the road passenger service, and (2) the additional annual revenue anticipated from the proposed increases in road passenger charges.

Under the provisions of the Transport Act, 1950, it is within the discretion of C.I.E. to fix their own charges. I have, however, made inquiries of C.I.E. and I am informed that the annual cost of present wage increases in the road passenger services amounts to £195,000; that additional annual revenue anticipated from proposed increases of road passenger charges is expected to amount to £230,000; and that increased costs in the road passenger department, other than wages, are expected to amount to £55,000.
