Vol. 153 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Bus Services.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the great public dissatisfaction with the operation of the bus services in the City of Dublin, and when it is expected to put more buses into operation on city services.

The statutory responsibility for providing adequate transport services rests with C.I.E. I am aware, however, that there has been public criticism of the Dublin City services and in response to my request C.I.E. have furnished me with a report in the matter. The board state that the traffic congestion in the central streets of the city causes irregular frequency and the general slowing down of services and that this has necessitated the use of additional vehicles. The board say that from the beginning of November they plan to introduce additional city buses at the rate of three per week until the traffic demands are satisfied.
