Vol. 153 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Special Allowances—Proposed Increase.

andJ. Lynch asked the Minister for Defence if, in view of the hardships being experienced as a result of the increase in the cost of living, by members of the Old I.R.A., Cumann na mBan, etc., who are in receipt of special allowances, and having regard to the fact that before they qualify for such allowances they must be proved to be incapable of self-support, he will introduce legislation to increase these allowances at an early date.

I do not propose to introduce legislation to increase the rates of special allowances payable under the Army Pensions Acts.

That is one of the sections that were left without being helped when you were last in office.
